Indian band Black Slades on arrival at the Doha International Airport
in Doha on Wednesday morning. The Delhi-based musicians are in Doha
to perform at the Mayball dine and dance event of Doha Goans Sports
Club to be held today (Thursday) at Ramada Plaza Giwana Hall from 8.00
pm onwards. The Mayball event was first started in Doha by Doha Goans Sports Club in 1991 during the tenure of Basil Coutinho as president of the club.

Doha: Delhi-based Indian Black Slades which has had enthralled the music
lovers in the Indian Capital for than two decades will try to enchant
their fans in Qatar with their scintillating music at today’s (May 5)
Mayball dine and dance event of Doha Goans Sports Club (DGSC) at
Ramada Plaza from 8.00pm onwards.
The five member group arrived in Qatar yesterday and was received by
the members of DGSC at the Doha International Airport.
Black Slades makes for a lethal combination. They have in their ranks
India's best drummer, the most talented guitarist, best-of-the-best
bass player like no other, an equally impressive guy on the keyboard
and a talented and an enthusiast vocalist and to cap it all a female
singer who will captivate you all the way.
BlackSlades’ have also done several musical shows overseas and
performed regularly in Indian cities like Chandigarh, Roorkhie,
Jaipur, Goa, etc, besides Delhi. Catering to different types of people
and listening tastes from rock concerts at colleges to hi-brow jazz
and pop dos, their repertoire is wide, flexible and they provide what
the people want. BlackSlades have also worked with Apache Indian and
Kailash Kher.
The main attraction of the evening will be the crowning of the Mayball
Queen at the hands of former Miss India and now Bollywood star
Tanushree Dutta, who will be the chief guest for the dine and dance.
Tanushree, who was crowned Miss India in 2004 started her Bollywood
career with 'Chocolate' in 2005, and also stared in Aashiq Banaya
Aapne, 36 China Town, Bhagam Bhaag, Risk, Good Boy Bad Boy, Raqeeb,
Dhol, Speed, Mr. Fraud, Dus Kahaniyan, Sas Bahu Aur Sunsex, Rokda,
Apartment, Ramaa, Khilladi (2011).
The MayBall Queen winner will be picked up by a panel of eminent
persons from Qatar.
The beauty pageant contestants win fabulous prizes. Participants can win prizes in gold, various electronic
items, watches, Air tickets, hotel vouchers and other gifts said DGSC. Spot prizes for
Jive & Salsa Dancing Couples, Lucky Entrance, Novelty Dance Winners
are the other highlights of the dine and dance by DGSC. The organizers
said there are many surprises prizes awaiting the public which will be
given away for different contests and fun games, both for children and
adults.
An English teacher by profession and a compere by passion, Nelwyn
Fernandes will set the tone at the Mayball.
The aim of the May Queen Dine and Dance is to raise funds for the
school for blind children in India, added the organizers.

The concept of May Queen Ball was started by Doha Goans Sports Club in
1991 i.e 1st May Queen Ball during Basil Coutinho as President and it
continued till 2003 when the club was dissolved.
