Karishma Vaz wins May Queen beauty pageant of Doha Goans Sports Club
Doha: Karishma Vaz, third year student of Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada won the May Queen beauty pageant of Doha Goans Sports Club (DGSC) beating off competition from 21 other contestants at a glittering function at Ramada Plaza Giwana Ballroom Hall on Thursday night.
Contestants from Canada, Russia, Middle East, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India participated in the beauty pageant.
Angel Polacco was declared as the first runner-up followed Queenie Fernandes who bagged the second runner-up award.
Karishma was crowned as DGSC May Queen 2011 at the hands of former Miss India and Bollywood star Tanushree Dutta, who was the Guest for the day.
Tanushree was accompanied on Doha trip by her sister Ishita Dutta.
Master Blaster Nelwyn Fernandes from Goa was compere for the show, which witnessed a full house weekend crowd.
Each of the beauty pageant participants had to walk the ramp and besides introducing themselves had to answer one question.
Karishma, clinched the numero uno position for willingness to work for the underprivileged sections of society through Doha Goans Sports club, which found favour with the five judges- Tanushree Dutta , Aarti Fernandes, Dr Hema Stallard, Dr D Jeffrey Field and Archie D’Mello
“Irrespective if I win the title or not, I would definitely want to help the community through this club. My volunteering experiences have taught me to be selfless and help others and as far as I know the mission of this club is to help the poor and underprivileged. And so I would love to volunteer and help the community through this club,” said Karishma, in response to - Irrespective if you win tonight or not, would you help the community through this club?

DGSC President Ambrosio Dias welcomed the guests while Mauricio Pereira PRO and Sports and Cultural Director of DGSC proposed the vote of thanks. Part of the proceeds of the dance will be given to the National School of the Blind, Goa Branch informed the DGSC.

performed regularly in Indian cities like Chandigarh, Roorkhie, Jaipur, Goa, etc, besides Delhi. in Doha on Wednesday morning. The Delhi-based musicians are in Doha
to perform at the Mayball dine and dance event of Doha Goans Sports
Club to be held today (Thursday) at Ramada Plaza Giwana Hall from 8.00
pm onwards. The Mayball event was first started in Doha by Doha Goans Sports Club in 1991 during the tenure of Basil Coutinho as president of the club.

and a talented and an enthusiast vocalist and to cap it all a female
singer who will captivate you all the way.
BlackSlades’ have also done several musical shows overseas and
performed regularly in Indian cities like Chandigarh, Roorkhie,
Jaipur, Goa, etc, besides Delhi. Catering to different types of people
and listening tastes from rock concerts at colleges to hi-brow jazz

Club to be held today (Thursday) at Ramada Plaza Giwana Hall from 8.00
pm onwards. The Mayball event was first started in Doha by Doha Goans Sports Club in 1991 during the tenure of Basil Coutinho as president of the club.
