Hats off to Cultural Secretary – DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB

Dear Mr. Paul Fernandes                                                                                                                                                                             (Cultural Secretary – DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB

Being a fan of cultural activities, I would like to congratulate you and the entire cultural team for having put up a marvelous, outstanding performance on 19th November marking “World Goa Day” celebration in the State of Qatar under the banner of Doha Goans Sports Club (DGSC).

To organize such cultural activity within a short span by getting together the talented Goan artists in Qatar is not an easy task due to the work timings and family atmosphere, but with your tireless efforts and God Gifted talents you proved it could be done.

My 100% credit goes to you for keeping the Goan community crowd on their feet with your soft melodious well groomed voice.  You also proved your professionalism by comparing most of the show and also made sure that the programs lined up took place without any interruption of time waste.  To add to it the stage set up, sound system was perfect  and not forgetting Agnelo Rodrigues (AGGIE) who played a professional  one man show music which enlightened the complete Cultural Show and made the crowd to feel that they were in homeland GOA.
Congratulations and keep up the good works with DGSC.

As we all know that DGSC has planned a repeat performance show, which will be staged on 3rd December 2010 on the occasion of St. Francis Xavier Feast, I hope that you have taken an initiative to include the following programmes which were held on World Goa Day.
1:  Mando  (by: QATARCHIM KIRNAM – Natsy & Group)
According to me QATARCHIM KIRNAM – group,  the set up, dress code, stage feet & body movements and singing was perfect with good co-ordination.  The Mandos which they sang made us feel that we were in Goa and emphasized the actually Goan singing tradition when it comes to GOAN functions and get together.  They really deserve to be on the repeat show.

2:  Instrumental – Saxophone (By: Blena D’souza)
This teenage girl really put us on our dancing feet and FIESTA Mode.   She really depicted the Goan tradition of music style when it comes to Feast, Weddings and party get together by blowing SOLO music.  She too should definitely be included.

3:  DEKNI – (By. Maria & Pearl)
This too was perfect and well combined with belly dance showing the mix Goan culture.

Hope you will take my suggestions into consideration, as this will give a boom to our Goan tradition and Culture on St. Francis Xavier – Feast day and show the KONAKANI SPEAKING COUMMUNITY, that GOANS have the life style of dance, sining and music in their blood.

Thanks
Paul D’souza

From the archives going down memory lane for some

DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB
INTRODUCTION
The Goan Associations  are found in every continent and the establishment of the DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB in Doha, Qatar is a sequel to the others.

BIRTH OF DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB

To break away from the shackles of sheer hard work, the Doha Goan  on this desert land  was looking for an oasis to quench his thirst for football  a game, which  is  very  dear  to the hearts of every Goan. Next  step lead to  the formation  of  two teams to participate in the 1984 - Expatriate Football League. Due to  restrictions at that time, our teams could not participate in the name of Doha Goans but used the sponsorís name: AIR INDIA WANDERERS AND COLTS. Both the teams secured the 3rd and 4th place amongst the 12 participating teams. It was this first kick-off that conceived the idea to form a Club.  The long cherished dream of every Goan on the land became  a reality when DOHA GOANS SPORTS  CLUB  was  born in  July 1985 with just 30 members. Slowly  and  steadily, our club  gained a large membership to reach almost 150 (most of them families) as of now.

Over the y e a r s, the Presidents changed and the activities expanded from  football to other sports and  social programmes to bring  our Goan families together from time to time.

MANAGING COMMITTEE 1999 - 2000

Each year an annual meeting of the member is called to elect the President and Vice-President for a term of one year. A Chairman, Mr. Mathew Estrocio  and a Lady President, Mrs. Lucy Fernandes who is actually at the  helm of affairs, heads our present Managing Committee.  She and her competent t e a m  puts  in whole-hearted effort to put up a successful itinerary keeping in mind the end benefit to all the supportive members.
