Qatar: 2010 Success Inspires Doha Goans Sport Club to Hold a Grander 'Goa Day'

Doha, State of Qatar: The Doha Goans Sports Club (DGSC), inspired by the success of Goa Day celebration in November 2010, held the celebration this year as well.

On Friday, Nov 18, the DGSC members joined together with more enthusiasm and fanfare, on a much grander scale to celebrate the Goa Day.

This year DGSC gave more acting opportunity to younger talents. Many youths participated and gave their best, in dance sequences and overall acting, says a press release of DGSC.

Looking back on the tremendous success of the Goa Day in 2010, many parents volunteered to send their wards to participate in this year’s Goa Day celebration, it says.

“We do not want to disappoint anyone and we gave a chance to all the talented youths to perform,” said Rosina and Carmen, director and assistant cultural director respectively at Doha Goans Sports Club.

The Goa Day celebration is the coming together of the entire Goan community, according to DGSC. “We wanted to encourage more and more Goans, irrespective of their age, to come forward and show their hidden talents in acting. There are many Goans here in Qatar with perfect acting talents and this was one of the good platforms for them to prove their abilities, and they got the full support and assistance from experienced resource persons of DGSC,” said the release further.

DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB holds Annual Essay Writing Competition

Doha: The significance and uniqueness of the date 11-11-11 was well utilized by the DOHA GOANS SPORTS CLUB when on the same date they conducted their Annual Essay Writing Competition in association with the Mercure Grand Hotel, Doha, for the Indian students in Qatar. Over 100 entries were received and the overall response was overwhelming.

The competition was categorized into three groups . Group-1 which included children from level 5 to 7 had to write on the topic “Blessings of Science to Mankind” within 200/300 words. Group-2 included children from level 8 to 10 and they wrote on the topic “Internet a boon or a bane” within 300/400 words. Group-3 was allotted to the senior children from level 11 to 12 and they found the topic “Youth the pillars of the Society” an easy one as observed from their writing which exceeded the pre-set word limit of 500/600 words.

All participants were issued with a Certificate of Participation and the three winners of each category will be awarded. The Prize distribution of the ESSAY COMPETITION winners will be held on the Goa Day celebration 18th November 2011 at DOHA MUNICIPALITY CONFERENCE HALL near Qatar National Bank Corniche.

It was heartening to note that, more than the children, the parents were delighted over the conduction of the competition, at the present time, when children tend to give less importance to the art of developing the skills of good writing, as a result of the usage of modern communication media like the internet and mobile.

The DOHA GOAN SPORTS CLUB is pleased to announce the winners of the Essay Writing Competition and congratulates, in Group A, 1st place Mallika Ravi, 2nd place Anvita Nithyanand & 3rd place Anugraha Arun. In Group B, 1st place Sripradha Sankruthi, 2nd place C.S.Vane Swetah & 3rd place Vikram Kumaresan. In Group C, 1st place Manoj Thayalan, 2nd place Fathima Hanan & 3rd place Satya Rashmit Durugu.
